ART SHOW POLICIES
For Artists and Art organizations.
Note: all dates and moneys subject to change through Feb. 2012 depending on our economy at that time. March 1 all fact will be firm for April Opening Day.
The Art Organization.
This new program aims to foster comradery and connection amongst art organization leaders and between their memberships all in the setting of a working arts event and sale opportunity.
The Arts Organization applies for membership with SDI at no fee. Then they inform their membership of the Sculptors Invitational Art Show; and jury their own membership. Pads are 10x10 feet at $50 donation each for one day use; the show is two days and you may show one or both days. One pad is given to the organization free for one or both days to promote itself with a banner and handouts and/or to also show a up to 3 members work. Up to 3 members may show per pad. Art leaders are intended to handle all the event needs and issues of their membership and be final authority of their membership participants. For services to membership the organization may at their discretion add nominal fee to the pad price or take a nominal commission from the sale of its own membership. A banner should be on each of your members pads.
To promote quality for each organizations jury process an SDI jury at the show will judge quality of each organizations presentation of and collection of artists/sculptors works as a whole and award one $1000 prize, two $500 dollar prizes, three $300 dollar prizes and four $200 prizes.
The Art Show is limited to professional artists and "sculptors of small works" who will show paintings, small sculpture and other approved fine arts. A fine arts list description is developing. Candidate professional artists and sculptors who wish to exhibit and sell are juried through their own respective participating art organizations; preferably from your own cities or countries. Ask your local art organization to get involved. Artists/sculptors without an organization from their area may join any participating organization, see developing list, who finds they meet entry criteria of their organization. SDI will take artists/sculptors who are not finding membership in a participating organization, under SDI membership regulations. SDI sculptors of large scale are automatic art show members and are candidates for an art show pad to sell their own small sculptures and paintings. Artists/sculptors may participate one or both days.
To encourage quality and the best presentation of work by the individual artists; Five best small sculpture sculptors will be awarded $100 each; five best painter artists will be awarded $100 each. An SDI jury will judge during the show.
Note. ArtShow policies are different from Sculptor Policies which are for large outdoor sculptors only.
All art organizations from Texas, other states and countries are invited to apply for art salon participation in the Sculptors Invitational Art Show.
ART SHOW DATES AND DEADLINES -------------------------
March 1. ART ORGANIZATION Registration Deadline
Art Organizations may register all year except during March and April. Art Organization Membership with SDI is required to present your particpating members. Mail or email is acceptable. Late registration fee $50 if your organization registers during March or April. Artists may register with their respective art organizations per policies of that organizations deadlines. SDI artshow membership is March 1.
Each organization must email a list of member names who are participating and how many padsites are needed. March 1 is deadline to email your organizations intended artist participation list. The 2nd week of March all checks from your participating artists must be mailed to SDI,Inc to secure your organizations pad(s). Order of checks recieved is first come first serve basis for central located padsites. This date and paid status is important for us to design handout materials and update the website.
PAPERWORK. Mail or Email. Your lists should include participating organization title, address and contact information, any available graphics artwork, plus the several names of your participating artists: "artists name, medium, style"; [plus any special honor, award or title that artist has earned through art.] A list of what the artist has brought to sell must be submitted to you by the member and then you submit that list to SDI; and it may not be changed after it is submitted and approved.
RAINDATE. No raindate. There is no official raindate as all budgets, ads, promotions, handouts, preparations are aimed at one opening date for several months of planning; there is not budget or preparation time to change it all due to rain. However, you may use the next weekend as the raindate if the opening day/weekend is rained out, be aware you are responsible for your own promotion of the date change to your eblast group and mailer group of contacts. Note. San Antonio rains are usually less than 30 minutes or usually only mornings. Rainouts are posted that morning or day on the website homepage. The show is will go on unless the posting has been made. Keep an eye on your internet weather channel guide.
PADSITE DONATION. Note. Rainouts are an act of God and part of the risk of an outdoor show, and are in no way in the control of SDI, Inc. 501c3. SDI will perform faithfully for a great opening and spend money and time and planning to that end. There are no moneys of pad site donation returned as all pad moneys are donations to SDI, Inc. 501c3 and have been used for the show preparations and ongoing costs and bills. If you do not agree with this police do not enter the show.
NOTICE. Submitting a registration and or participating in the art show or sculpture show is your DEFAULT SIGNATURE of notice, acceptance, understanding and consent of the policies. All conflicts will be lititgated in Bexar County, Texas.
April 7 - Art Show Open to the public from 11am to 4pm. Saturday. One day.
April 8 - Easter Sunday. Short day. Sculptors Invitational open, no Art Show due to family holiday, open 12 noon to 4pm, today only. Sculptors Invitational continues April 7 to April 29, the 4 weekends of April.
Artist SET UP & TAKE DOWN DATE---------------------------------------------------
April 7 - Set up, Take down. Installation is morning of April 7, 8am to 10am. Show opens at 11am. Removal promptly from 5pm to 6pm. No late set up after opening hour. During show hours 11am to 5pm no items or artworks may be removed or added, nor prices changed or traded out. No items may be left overnight, unless at your own risk and storage fees apply if items remain past Sunday April 8. Pads $50 each day. Security is your responsibility.
INSTALLATION Equipment and help. You must bring your own volunteer help, equipment, tools, hand trucks, dollies, wheeled carts, etc. No parking vehicles or trailers on venue during show. Heavy items requiring time to unload and set up may be unloaded Friday, the day before, April 6 by appointment, firstname.lastname@example.org. Like wise very heavy loads may be cleared away on Monday by onsite permission and appointment should planning of SDI and you permit.Tents, bases and pedastals, art stands, easils are responsibility of your organization or you the artist. Home Depot hardware is close by down Vance Jackson on DeZavala Rd for tools and supplies at the last minute.
UNLOADING. Vehicles may enter venue to unload heavier items only, unload all items and quickly remove car to parking lot at school, do not leave vehicle parked onsite while setting up, other cars are entering simultaneous and driveway is single lane, do not cause traffic pile ups. Park at School parking lot across the street. Carry or wheel light weight items from parking lot. So others can get in and out of the one lane driveway do not leave car unattended or parked on the driveway at anytime. All vehicles must be cleared out of venue a half hour before showtime, no further vehicles allowed after opening hour.
SPACE is one 10x10 foot pad at $50 donation. Stay in your pad area to avoid $20 onsite charge of slight spill over, or $50 charge for taking a full extra pad site.
Weather. During or after a rain or while the venue grounds and grass are still soft from the rain, and no wheeled vehicles or carts allowed on the grass for loading or unloading. San Antonio rains are usually over in 30 minutes. Pull all electrical plugs during a rain. All installation activities prohibited during a rain.
Overnight SetUp Arrival. Artists may arrange to stay at any of over 100 motels/hotels that are within a 5 mile distance from the venue. Arrangements are responsibility of the artist.
HOW TO GET INTO THE ART SHOW & EXHIBIT-----------------------
ARTISTS. Become a member. Be a member of Sculptors Dominion OR of your own arts organization who is a member of Sculptors Dominion OR of any participating art organization. Submit a registration to the organization. SDI Entry is by jury, approval and satisfaction of your photos of submitted art materials. Each art organization has their own jury and fee levels for membership. At Sculptors Dominion, the pad donation of $50 is also your membership donation.
ART ORGANIZATIONS. Become a member of the Sculptors Dominion. Art Organizations are members automatically upon written submission of application by mail or email. Welcome. Your first 10x10 pad is complimentary for purposes of promoting and exposing your organization to the public and other organizations. You may set up banners and offer handouts. You may also show up to 3 different artists/sculptors works in your complimentary pad. You are responsible to promote the show and collect in advance checks for pads for other of your members who wish to participate under your banner, each of their pads should be identified with your banner. All checks are due March 1 to reserve a pad. You may use the event to raise money for your organization by adding additional pad site moneys or collecting a nominal commission, or selling donated works from your membership.
ARTWORK QUALITY - The show seeks art of professional
quality, composition, construction and presentation from qualified and career professional sculptors. Art Organizations have discretion over their membership. SDI has final discretion.
JURY - Submitted works will be juried by
practicing professional artists/sculptors of the respective art organization.
QUANTITY - No limit on number of pad sites - each pad site is 10x10 at $50; SDI provides no bases, easils, supplies, equipment, however check your art organization policies.
COMMISSION - There will be no commission the show 2012 by SDI. SDI's saleswork preparation, research, records and contact data are not the property of the sculptor/artist or other art organizations.
Price setting and changes. Please set your prices as if you only had one hour left in the show and you did not want to take the art back home. Set it low at the beginning of the show, do not change it, unless you are face to face negotiating. You may not change prices during the show unless your are actively negotiating with a buyer.
INSURANCE - Insurance is the responsibility of the sculptor/artist, other art organization.
LIENS/ ABANDONED ARTWORK/SCULPTURES/ NOTICE OF REMOVAL----
Money owed to the show or director will create an artists lien on your sculpture/artwork until that money is paid. The lien will be enforced.
Note. Read the Policies. At our option and discretion your registration is also your consent to have your name, photo, artwork/sculpture and/or website published, photographed and/or promoted by SDI at all times.
NOTICE. Put your name and contact data on your items. Unless otherwise agreed by email notice/ or phone call, a sculpture/artwork or other items for the artshow that are left on venue at conclusion of the show are considered abandoned or orphaned if it is not readily self identified with your name and number or if a sculptor/artist does not communicate its description with the show immediately within the following week in writing that it is missing or left behind. This includes all items remaining after the show. SDI is not responsible for artwork or other items that go missing during the show or that get damaged during the show. For all SDI returns of work or other items alleged by you to be yours a proof of property ownership is required. Storage fees will be assessed for all artworks or items not taken at close of the ArtShow. After 30 days abandoned, unclaimed, unidentified work or items becomes property of the show to be sold, or be traded for value or discarded.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST-----------------------------------------------------------
At other Art Organizations, check with their membership fee criteria. At SDI,Inc. 501c3 sculptor memberships and artshow memberships are $50 annual and cover your 1 large sculpture entry to the Sculptors Invitational; Or Artists membership covers one day pad donation $50 for a 10x10 foot area and your membership donation. More than one artist may share a pad but not a membership.
VENUE - The Sculptors Invitational is hosted annually at The Villa del Carmen Sculpture Conservatory. It is a residential 6 acre garden estate at 11354 Vance Jackson Rd, San Antonio, Texas, U.S.A. The grounds are landscaped with open fields and thousands of oak trees on softly rolling carpet grassed hill slopes. Some 200 largescale works can be spaciously displayed; or 100 large sculpture and up to 50 pad sites. God, Weather, the Elements and Gods Animals ----------------------------------
The show or its agents will not be responsible for accidents, acts of God, weather, the elements, birds, insects or animals and their behaviors: i.e., wind gusts, wind carrying dirt or smoke, water, sun, cold, hail, falling leaves or branches or trees or the effects of the aforesaid or related damages or losses of any kind at any time for any artworks. We are not responsible for fading paint or patinas due the the said elements. This is an outdoor show. Sculptors be sure materials you use are outdoor proof through the seasons, Artists be prepared for wind gusts, etc. for the two day show.
Bad people and accidents-----------------------------
The show and/or its agents are not responsible for acts of vandalism, criminal acts, trespasser damage, accidents or guests damages or freak accidents related to your artwork. We are not responsible for damages due to normal handling resulting in damages; such as picking up your work and it breaks of its own due to bad welding, bolting, gluing and/or similar adhesive methods of materials; Or due to poor engineering or infrastructure armatures of your artwork.
Repairs and Fixes.
You are responsible to fix or repair your own artwork at your own expense caused by you or bad people or accidents.
TAXES - The buyer is responsible to pay state taxes with the purchase price unless they present at time of sale a tax number or unless the final destination of the sculpture is out of the state of Texas. The show collects the San Antonio tax rate, - .081250 -
