MISSION
To motivate 3 dimensional creativity, to cause big sculpture appreciation and inter-cultural exchange, and to show professional presentations of sculpture demonstrations and exhibits; for all ages. Education events will take place on the grounds of the "Sculptors Dominon International" (SDI), (a non-profit educational 501c3), i.e., the Villa del Carmen Conservatory.

ABOUT US
SDI hosts over 50 sculptor in an annual Sculptors Invitational each April. The Villa del Carmen Conservatory is the venue for the exhibit. This year Sculptors Dominion has added the Sculpture School at the same venue. For the students benefit this provides about 100 big sculpture works as an "outdoor library" on 6 acres of Sculpture Garden. This serves as an educational resource or for mere visual appreciation and motivation. As you learn to sculpt you will have the convenient access of onsight research of other works by professionals from several states and countries. Our classes serve professionals, dedicated adult patrons, and gifted children. For additional educational resources, San Antonio boasts the McNay and San Antonio Museum of Art. Join us for a class.

CALENDAR
Summer: June and July
Fall: September and October
Winter: January and February
Spring: March and April

SEASONS, SESSIONS, HOURS
Sculptors Dominion Sculpture School (SDSS) offers sculpture classes during the year for each of 4 seasons. Courses run spring, summer, fall and winter. Each season is two months or two sessions, I and II. Classes last one month and range the 4 weekends. Most classes are one month only. Some class offerings are 2 or 3 day workshops, for that weekend only. Class hours are generally 4 hours from 10am to 2pm. Students may take a midway break for a half hour, bring their lunch, drive out for lunch, or use the on site grill to cook. Earphone music only. Reviewing the approximate 100 strong sculpture garden is encouraged during shorter breaks.

CLASS TRADITIONS
In general SDSS provides experiences in the lost arts of sculpture. Advanced students will recieve experiences in the even more rare art of big sculpture creation. Nationwide these sculpture course areas are underserved. Nationwide no College or University has an arts department with an empasis on sculpture, if they have a sculpture course at all. The U.S. public arts arenas are devoid of this European tradition of antiquity and public beauty. SDSS's educational programs will help serve these ends.

COURSE FOUNDATIONS
The focus of SDSS emphasises courses in the traditional materials of antiquity: stone, clay, wood, metals, and glass and including cement. Non-traditional materials of contemporary time will also be featured such as the many modern chemical resins. As well the sculptural processes of antiquity will be blended with the modern techniques of sculpture today, such as hand sculpting by hammer and chisel, wood carving by hand and knife to electric, air powered and gas powered sculpting tools and including the state of the art welding techniques.

COURSE VS. WORKSHOP
A course is generally one month, sometimes two months of 4 weekends each month. A workshop is a one, two or three day class over one weekend. One month classes are designed to be intense and comfortably efficient. Workshops are designed for the busy student who travels from out of town or the local student wishing a complete immersion.

SPECIAL PROGRAMS
SDSS schedules special events such as an annual members show, members gallery, symposiums, quarry and studio visits and sculpture discovery trips

REGISTRATION
Registration fee is twenty dollars plus the cost of the class. Students may register at any time of the year or up to two weeks in advance to secure a position in the class. All registration forms recieved before the start of the first class must be accompanied by a check with 50% of the class fee plus $20 registration fee. The check guarantees you are in the class, verbal or email commitments are not a guarantee where space is very limited. The remainder to be paid on the first day at the start of class. If a class closes a waitng list will be started only if accompanied by the registration form and 50% down. If a class does not make the minimum student limits or requirements all moneys will be returned less registration fee of $20. If the class has not closed then a student may come on the first day of class with registration form and 100% of class fee. If a registered student cancels two week in advance of the course all moneys will be returned less registration fee. If a class has made and been published as closed, thereby turning away student prospects and then if a registered student cancels less than two weeks in advance their moneys will be held until a new registration and fee takes its place. Moneys are used to pay instructor salaries and supplies so if no new registrant comes forth to make the limit minimum then the canceled student will forfeit 50% of the class fee and the registration fee.
